Begin with the ordinary
A job title tells you surprisingly little about how you will spend your day. A marketer in a small company may write copy, organise events and analyse campaign results. In a larger team, each activity may be someone’s specialism.
Ask better questions
When you speak to a professional, ask what they worked on last week. What decision was difficult? What do they wish they had learned earlier? Concrete examples are more useful than a polished job description.
Try a small version of the work
Choose a project with a clear audience and purpose. Interview potential users, write a short brief, create one piece of communication and ask for feedback. Keep a record of what changed and why.
Your next step
Open the Marketing career profile, pick one stage and list two questions to ask a person doing that work.
